First there was Michelle Saram, who shot to fame in a TV ad of pagers with superstar Aaron Kwok. Then came Lee-Ann, who scored in a mobile phone ad campaign with Leon Lai. Now, the latest local model to get internamtional attention is gorgeous Jaymee Ong, undoubtedly one of the hottest girls on the scene.
Already a veteran cover girl in Singapore, this Austrailian-born 19-year-old caught the souful eyes of Aaron Kwok when he saw her in a fashion spread in the August issue of CLEO. So enthralled was he that the Heavenly King not only decided to use her in his music video, he also get her int a lucrative Pepsi ad campaign. "I was doing a shoot for CLEO when i found out about the job with Aaron Kwok. I didn't know who he was until Sally (CLEO's fashion editor) told me," says she. "He was never intimidating. He talked for an hour about everything, from Australia, how he started, his cars - he's into cars".
Jaymee says, "it's not my biggest paycheque but he's definitely the biggest star I've ever worked with."
It all started for her when she took her younger sister to get her ears pierced at a hair salon in Australia when a famous photographer, who worked at the salon, offered to take her picture. For a free haircut, she agreed. Then the manager of a modeling agency in Australia loved her pictures and put her on a cover - she was only 15. Four years on, she's gone on to grace moce covers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Bangkok and Sigapore, earning more than most girls her age - or indeed, any age.
Modelling wasn't the first thing this fiercely independent young woman tried, though. At 14, she worked as a waitress, then as a dental nurse. At one time she was waitressing, modeling, and schooling. "I was very prouse of myself, i bought clothes and make-up with my first paycheque. I love shopping!"
Shopping's not the only thing which gives her a buzz. She's a self conffessed work-out maniac: "I exercise for two hours a day: 100 laps in the pool, 500 step-ups, power-walk, sit-ups, lift weights: I've been known to come home at 3am and work till 5am."
Jaymee's contemplating acting as well - all she needs now is the right script and role; after all, she studied Drama and TV for nine years. But she's not likely to be warbling up there with Aaron: "i'm tone-deaf. The only time I sing is when I'm in my car . . . with the windows down!"
